Eventyr is a high fantasy event run by a friend of mine, doing 3 or 4 weekend events each year.
They had their first event back in April and I have to say it was perhaps the best high fantasy event I've ever been to. The format is more D&D based than some systems (I'm confessing here I've never played D&D so going on other's opinions!). There is a deep level of plot but this doesn't necessarily drive the games to the extent that some campaign based systems I've played do - the main focus is on being part of a small party of adventurers, raiding various tombs, pits, taking on jobs from NPCs to find or assist in a task.
It's also been compared to World of Warcraft in live form but again I wouldn't know.
Of all the high fantasy games I've played though it was definitely the most immersive. There was always something to do, none of the usual case of waiting in a camp for something to happen. And if you went out to explore the world at large it felt like the most inhabited world I'd ever played in, there was always the risk of bumping into something or someone (not always hostile though!).
Those curious to know about friendly faces going then I'll be there, as will Tim and Nessa.
The next event is coming up quick, the weekend of August 10-12, and is up in Stoke on Trent, near Alton Towers. It's a fantastic site I've been to before and, having seen what they managed to do with the last one I think they'll put the site to good use.
I think there's also talk of a 3rd event in November.
Really is a great system and they're still happy to take player bookings (£50 at this point) or are also very interested to hear from anyone who'd like to crew (free).
