 What format should Twilight take?
« Thread Started on Apr 13, 2008, 9:49am »

We'v been having various discussions with people about the future of Twilight.

We basically have two options on this one I think

1) We carry on the game in format that its in and make a push to try and get 15-20 players. We used to do that with Vampire, so I'm sure we can do it again. There are still plenty of LRPers in the city, and as theres not a whiff of WW in there, some who wouldn't come before might be tempted. We carry on with the £20 a year membership idea

2) We run the game say three of four times a year, as a larger event (bit like Brighton Below). We charge an amount (say £10) to cover venue costs and run it on a Sat evening. Aim to get players from wider area.

We'd appreciate your thoughts

a meeting could be good, however it's getting people together that is the problem. Also, not sure how many people check the boards? would it be worth calling people?

Cheers

I would like to see game running twice a month with possible breaks of about a month. So that an off site event could be held during that month and to allow the refs time to do ref stuff.

A meeting I think is necessary: If twilight falls apart there are some things that can be ported to another system like the different races. Instead of having to chose from faction with in a race (a la vampire (although having 1 or 2 factions in some races would not be a bad idea however additional factions and races can be added when numbers pick up.)). This could be discussed in a meeting but in the meeting we will need to get definite answers from people to make sure that our (Simon's) organisation is not under threat from falling apart (at on the bi monthly side of things).

Also should we start a poster campaign up again to see if we can boost numbers.

I have found an old database of a system that I was part of I will take it a part and create a new database for a system the ref's want. It will speed up downtime greatly and enable you to do things like having race and faction rumours and personalised rumours with our any effort.

We're definitely going to have a meeting on this one. Will probably be in place of the May game.

Basically what it comes down to is that we don't feel that the game has "legs". I personally don't think that we're going to be able to attract the sorts of numbers that we'd need to make it work (i.e. 15 people minimum), and to be honest I've been running Vamp etc for about 7 years now so I've run out of steam
I don't have time or enthusiasm for the game which I think shows and doesn't make it any more fun for you

We're in a Catch 22 situation in that we don't want to run the game for 6 players. We might be able to get more players in but we'd need to improve the game and our "marketing" material. So we'd need to put in a load of work in the hope that we get the people in.
Which might not happen.

Its not a game that you can run on your own so James would need help to do it. I still don't have the enthusiasm, so all in all its a struggle. I know people have offered to help with small bits (and we're grateful for those offers) but basically we'd need someone who wants to run the game full time and that would mean further depleting our already low player numbers

In which case, i would say leave it be. Concentrate on brighton below and darklight, then eventually run pass players there whether they'd be up for doing a 'new' event on the same three/ four times a year basis.

if you end up doing all of that you're still gonna be running anywhere from 7-13 events per year which is still gonna be one every one or two months. regular enough for people to not get rusty, you can then put more effort in to props, costume, plot, locations etc. Also doing that few a number of special events each year means that people can book time off from work, family etc. It something they can aim for. Plus if you get the bookings far enough in advance you know if running the event is feasible, won't take a loss and could earn some extra pennies.

Just to remind people that tonights meeting is an OOC meeting. Basically we've come to the conclusion that we're going to stop running Twilight.

We're going to concentrate on our other less regular games instead, perhaps keeping Twilight in reserve for larger one-offs at a later date.

Just wanted to talk this through with our regular players, go over some of the options of where the clubs going in the future etc and see what people think.

But I'm afraid it probably is the end for the regular games in Brighton.

The result of the meeting is that Twilight has been wound up. We're going to focus on Brighton Below and Dark Times and maybe looking into some other new games.

But there will be no more Twilight games I'm afraid

what other games are you thinking of because if they are few and far between then I would like to help you on them. I am thinking of a new game (I'll e-mail you) only if it is in the same time scale per year as twilight then yes I can do something. I know merlin would like to help with something.
